Irama Dining – Penang

We spent 9 days in Penang, which was plenty of time for us to fill our tummies with the various good food recommendations from the internet and also from friends.

We ate through a range of food from street stalls to food centres to restaurants.

One restaurant that we particularly liked was Irama Dining, which serves traditional Malaysian cuisine with a fusion twist. It is a little on the pricier side, often used for business customers, but there are plenty of families dining there too. A recommendation is highly recommended it is always full house during meal times.

Once you enter, you will be greeted by their signature wall mural.

The cucur jagung was a nice surprise – we ordered it off the pictureless menu, and we were expecting perhaps something resembling corn on the cob so when this was served, we had to ask what it was. The children really enjoyed the crunchy friend corn fritters.

Very tender lamb shank, spicy and savoury.

Fish wrapped in banana leaf with a side of sambal dip.

The satay was served in a cute glass. Ours was just a little too charred for my liking but the sauce was thick and nutty, and we also had fun dipping the cucumbers and onions in it.

You can choose from two different types of rice – the blue pea flower rice or the pandan lemongrass rice. I preferred the blue pea flower rice, which is milder in flavour, because the dishes are already very heavy on taste.

We walked quite a distance to get to this restaurant, so we rewarded the children with the drinks of their choices.
