We felt like having Japanese food for dinner, and we turned to our trusty Google Search for help. Google threw up a few options and we went with this one that was highly rated at 4.7 stars. It definitely did not disappoint.
We started with some appetisers – chuka idako, or baby octopus, is Mr Dino’s favourite.

Edamame for the girls. Ms Milo doesn’t like eating it but she likes popping it. Thankfully Ms Milk likes eating it so that’s one way of getting greens into her diet.
I found it a little soggy but it was nicely salted.

Grilled corn, sweet and not overly charred. Again, this is for the girls, who have corn every week.

Ms Milo picked this – the salted egg taste wasn’t very strong, it tasted mostly like cream, but the girls enjoyed it. I found the crab to be a little soggy but still had a decent crunch.

I would have liked it a little bit more grilled, but it was good nevertheless.

Chicken Yakitori with leek glazed with teriyaki sauce – a default yakitori order for us. It was lightly charred, just the way we like it, leek was juicy and chicken was nicely firm.

I like grilled asparagus, so I ordered the grilled beef with asparagus. Typically I see asparagus wrapped in pork belly, but I think this restaurant does not serve pork and hence they replaced the pork belly with beef, which was a nice less fatty option.

Shishamo, or smelt, is one of my favourite dishes. Pops and I used to grill this often for our meals when we stayed together in Japan. Turned out the kids love it just as much as us and each had one.

Temaki / hand rolls, easy for the kids to eat.

We ordered four sets of aburi nigiri sushi of 2 pieces each – maguro (MYR 8), salmon (MYR 8), amaebi (MYR 18), hamachi (MYR 16). The fish were all a little on the dry side, they might have over-torched it, but the amaebi was nicely done.

We also ordered the special nigiri set which was very value for money!
What impressed us what that they serve freshly grated wasabi! Not all dishes came with the freshly grated wasabi but the trend we observed was that if you order sashimi, it will come with freshly grated sashimi. Other sushi orders may come with the pasty ones you get at supermarkets and most sushi chains.

Ms Milo ordered this – I think she was attracted by the “seaweed” in the name but it wasn’t quite what she expected. It was quite ordinary, basically a California roll coated in seaweed powder.

We know the girls love soft shell crab and anything with cheese, particularly the grilled kind, can’t go wrong.

Mr Dino never gets tired of gyudon, especially topped with an onsen egg.

Unagi don – there was a generously large piece of unagi, nicely grilled, smokey taste, placed over a fried egg. The unagi turned out to be a favourite, and honestly, I think I would order this again.

We upgraded our set to a Santen Mori Soba which meant that we had three different types of noodles in a dish. Interestingly it came with a side of raw quail egg perched atop a bed of wasabi and paired with spring onions.

That’s a lot of food for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids, including a 3 year old toddler, but amazingly we finished it all and did not waste any food. It seems that our kids also inherited our huge appetites.
We also had various fruit juices which were available at MYR 9.90 each!

We also had dragonfruit and watermelon juice but Ms Milk grabbed the watermelon juice as soon as it was served and we did not have an opportunity to take a photo of it.

All four juices were served with ice but were hot (yes hot, and not just warm) at the bottom, and I haven’t quite figured out why. I think it spoiled the taste of the fruit juices somewhat. I will not re-order the fruit juices.
We were given a lifetime VIP membership card which entitles us to a fruit platter and priority queue. Apparently all it takes is an expenditure of MYR 300, which isn’t that difficult to meet if you go with a few hungry friends.
The location is definitely convenient, right in the middle of the hip Taman Mount Austin area, and you can easily get there via a Grab ride.
